WELCOME BACK!

Chemistry

We begin with a discussion of science in general and Chemistry in particular.  Most students were disappointed in having homework on the first day, but we do have a lot of material to get through and only a year to do it in.  We look forward to seeing what this Chemistry thing is all about.

Scheduled lab(s) this week: Nothing yet, but coming soon.

Biology

We began with a welcome and introduction to this new teacher.  As with other classes, students were a bit surprised to have homework on the first day.  This week we discuss what is alive and how these alive things interact with each other.  A lot of material is expected and we will be pushed for time, so let's hit the ground running!

Scheduled lab(s) this week: None Scheduled

Physics

I have alreay heard that the students are intimidated by the homework on the first day.  They ain't seen nuthin' yet!  This week we review measurements, unit conversions, and significant figures.  Yes, I truly expect to make rocket scientists out of them by December.  On the plus side it is a small, engaged, and smiling group.  I hope to lead them to excellence this year!

         Scheduled lab(s) this week: Measurements

Seminar / Research (8th Grade)

This week we are finding our way into this realm of higher education.  What is this class all about anyway?  More than a study hall, more than a homeroom, but no textbook?  We will work with study skills, researching options, and test taking skills.  All the 8th graders are crammed in here, so it is a good bonding time too.

Earth Science

This week we will begin figuring out what Earth Science is all about.  For the 8th graders it is the first high school science class, and for the others it is a review of long-forgotten material.  We will be discussing not only Geology, but Meteorology and Astronomy too!  As with all of my classes we had homework on the first day.  The good news was that the 8th graders didn't expect any different, so just assumed that this was normal.  The others complained, but will do it anyway.
